Bush's last day: 179 days and counting.

Wisdom...

"If you don't know how to fix it, please stop breaking it."
Severn Suzuki, 1992 - Age 12.
Everyone should watch THIS video
of her speech to the UN Earth Summit.

  • "Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realize we cannot eat money." Cree Indian Proverb
  • "A man is rich in proportion to the number of things he can afford to let alone." Henry David Thoreau, 1854
  • "I hope the United States of America is not so rich that she can afford to let these wildernesses pass by, or so poor she cannot afford to keep them." Mardy Murie - In congressional testimony about the Alaska Lands Act, 1980
  • "Except, I will tell you this: that if Congress is truly interested in solving the [fuel price] problem, they can send the right signal by saying we're going to explore for oil and gas in the U.S. territories, starting with the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge." President George W. Bush, April, 2008

Is George W. Bush really as wise a man as that?

Abbey's Web"The wind will not stop. Gusts of sand swirl before me, stinging my face. But there is still too much to see and marvel at, the world very much alive in the bright light and wind, exultant with the fever of spring, the delight of morning...The extreme clarity of the desert light isequaled by the extreme individuation of desert life-forms. Love flowers best in openness and freedom."
Edward Abbey - Desert Solitaire

2008 Monsoon
Dew Point Graph

As of this year, the monsoon in Southern Arizona was arbitrarily said to begin on June 15 by the National Weather Service. In "reality", the monsoon begins on the third day in a row with an average dew point of 54º or higher.  The graph to the left tracks the average daily dewpoint. In 2007 the monsoon began on July 8.  In 2006, start date was June 28. The earliest start date on record since 1949 was June 17 in 2000, (or June 15, 2008, if you look at it that way), and the latest start date was July 25 in 1987.

Here is the National Weater Service page for the 2008 Monsoon in Tucson.

Dancing Bears by William Beard

Weather Report Suite - Let it Grow
by the Grateful Dead

What shall we say, shall we call it by a name?
As well to count the angels dancing on a pin.
Water bright as the sky from which it came,
And the name is on the earth that takes it in.
We will not speak but stand inside the rain,
And listen to the thunder shout:
I am, I am, I am, I am.

So it goes, we make what we made since the world began - nothing more, the love of the women, work of men - seasons round, creatures great and small, up and down, as we rise and fall.
